Mustique: where the velvet rope is the ferry

By Kafele Herring

placeholder draft — replace with full piece.

mustique sits 100 nautical miles east of barbados. seven square miles. one road. eighty villas. all owned. no day-trippers, no helicopters without permission, no cruise ships within sight.

the cotton house and firefly are the two stays. both are owned, not branded. the velvet rope here is the ferry — if you are not on the manifest, you do not land.

this is the kind of place we route for the off-month. august and september. the air sits still. the bar at basil’s opens for the household, closes when they leave.
