What the DR is known for
The DR is beaches, merengue, and warmth. It has the Caribbean’s best-known resort coastline at Punta Cana, the first European city in the New World at Santo Domingo, and a golf and marina scene that rivals anywhere. Rum, cigars, baseball, and genuine hospitality run through it all.
The regions
Punta Cana, on the east coast, is the resort heart, endless beaches, golf, and marinas. Santo Domingo, the capital, holds the historic Zona Colonial and the country’s culture. To the north lie Cabarete and the Samañá peninsula; inland, the cool mountains of Jarabacoa.
Sport, adventure & the outdoors
Championship golf at Punta Cana and Casa de Campo, world-class kitesurfing at Cabarete, diving and whale-watching off Samañá, sport fishing, and sailing the coast.

When to go
December to April is the dry, sunny peak season. Summer and fall are warm with brief showers; hurricane season runs June to November, so we plan around it.
Good to know
Currency. The Dominican peso, though US dollars are widely accepted; about 60 pesos to one dollar. Visa. Most Western passports enter visa-free for tourism. Health. No vaccinations required. Getting around. Domestic flights and private transfers link the coasts; we arrange it all.
